Press Release Summary: Delphian School students place well at Bishops Boooonanza Halloween Chess Tournament
Press Release Body: Every year at this time the Delphian School Chess Club makes the trek all the way up to Clatskanie, a town about 60 miles northwest of Portland, to play in the Bishops Boooonanza!! Scholastic Tournament. Sponsored by the Clatskanie Chess Club, it is always a lot of fun, with the students required to wear their Halloween costumes while playing.
This was the year's first major test for the Delphian School Chess Club players, but many of them turned in good results. In the section of the tournament for the youngest players, 9-year-old Arthur Eskandari took fourth and earned a nice medal for his efforts.
In the middle section Delphian School student dominated, led by Lindsay Price, 12, and Brett Horton, 10, taking first and second place respectively. Lindsay was the champion of the Yamhill and Polk County region amongst fifth graders two years ago, and Brett is last year's co-champion amongst fourth graders. Both have state championship experience.
In one of the sections for the older players, Delphian School's Colin Malick, 16, brought home the trophy for third, and 15-year-old Ryan Boles placed sixth and earned a medal.
James Horton, the Delphian School\'s Chess Coach, explains, \"It is always a fun tournament. Besides the usual medals and trophies one expects, The Clatskanie Chess Club gives out many prizes not based on competition, such as tee shirts, candy and party favors. But the biggest twist with this tournament is that the players wear their Halloween costumes. The students love it!\"
